Volunteers & How You Can Help
The Owls Head Village Library is run entirely by volunteers. From daily operations to special events, our library exists because community members generously give their time, skills, and support.
Volunteering at the Library
Volunteers help keep the library running smoothly during open hours and behind the scenes. Tasks vary based on interest, experience, and availability.
- Staffing the library during open hours
- Handling checkout and return of library materials
- Shelving books and organizing materials
- Assisting with administrative projects such as cataloging
- Providing flexible support to assist the librarian as needed
We welcome volunteer involvement whether it is one hour a week or many hours per week, month, or year.

The Board of Directors of the Owls Head Village Library Association is entirely volunteer.
Board members take active roles in overseeing library operations, building maintenance and improvements, library services, and program planning.

The Nominating Committee welcomes interest from individuals willing to devote their time and talents to the continued progress of the library as a community resource.
Particular needs include support in marketing, event planning (including children’s programs), technology, fundraising, facility maintenance, and library assistance.

The Owls Head Village Library Association holds an Annual Meeting in June, and all are welcome to attend.

Donations
The Owls Head Village Library relies heavily on donations and fundraising to operate, maintain our building, and grow our collections, services, and programs. Donations support more than 60% of our annual operating needs, with fundraising and support from the Town providing the remaining 40%.
Donation Policy
Donations, Gifts, and Memorials
The Owls Head Village Library is grateful for gifts, and its collection has been enriched by donations of materials as well as by financial contributions. Through donors, the library has acquired materials that could not have been purchased otherwise.
Donation of Books and Audio-Visual Materials
In accepting a gift of materials, the library reserves the right to decide whether donated items should be added to the collection. Books that are useful to the collection will be retained; others may be disposed of in a manner the librarian deems appropriate.
Gift Book Program
The library welcomes monetary contributions for book purchases made in memory or honor of named individuals.
Monetary Donations
The library welcomes cash contributions, gifts of real property, stocks, and bonds. Cash gifts are typically expended in areas of greatest need unless a specific purpose or timeline is designated at the time of donation.
Recognition of Gifts
For memorial books, the library may place a donor nameplate inside the book if desired. Donors may suggest parameters such as genre, audience age, or material type; however, final selection decisions rest with the library to ensure alignment with collection guidelines.
Use of Gifts
All gifts are accepted with the understanding that they may be sold or disposed of if necessary in the best interest of the library. The library cannot commit to permanently housing donated items.
Income Tax Statements
The library cannot appraise the value of donated materials or artwork. However, donors will receive a letter acknowledging the donation for income tax purposes.

Donations are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged for tax purposes.
Donate Through Facebook
If you are on Facebook, please consider choosing the Owls Head Village Library as your nonprofit for birthday fundraisers. Friends can donate in your name, and the funds will be sent to the library approximately one month later.
You may also donate directly using Facebook’s donate tools.
We are grateful for every contribution, whether small or large.
CLYNK Recycling Program
Another easy way to support the library is through the CLYNK recycling program.
All proceeds from donated recyclables go directly to the Owls Head Village Library.
How it Works
- Pick up a CLYNK donation bag and tag at the library.
- If you already have CLYNK bags, stop by to get a library tag.
- Fill your bag with eligible recyclables.
- Bring the bag to the CLYNK depository outside Hannaford’s in Rockland.
- Scan your tag and deposit the bag.
The value of your recyclables will be credited directly to the Owls Head Village Library’s CLYNK account.
